Water Awareness Day at the Monterey County Fair

Download or View Water Adventure PassportThe 3rd Annual Water Awareness Day at the Monterey County Fair will be held Saturday, August 16, from 12 noon to 7 p.m. The popular event is co-sponsored by the Water Awareness Committee of Monterey County, Inc. and California American Water Company.

The day's celebration will include a Water Adventure activity during which Fair-goers obtain a Passport upon entry to the Fair (or get yours now) and visit participating Water Destination exhibitors to learn various water conservation strategies. Each Water Destination will be designated with a large water drop poster. Exhibit topics included dual flush toilets, water-free urinals, high efficiency appliances, groundwater clean-up, water recycling, salt-free water conditioning, water-wise plantings, smart irrigation controllers, and atmospheric water colllection systems.

WAC's Watahbug mascot will be on hand to spread the word and promote the event (acted by Janet Wilson, a professionally trained clown).

Free Prizes

To receive great prizes, simply have your Passport stamped by at least 5 of the 12 participating Water Destinations. When your Passport is complete, return it to the WAC booth. Prizes include water conserving soil moisture meters and WAC's GardenSoft CD-ROM for Waterwise Landscaping in Monterey County.

Monterey Regional Waste Management DistrictEvent participants will also be entered into a free drawing to win one of several Grand Prizes, including two high efficiency clothes washers donated by Built In Distributors in Seaside and Cal-Water in Salinas, and a Biostack compost bin donated by Monterey Regional Waste Management District.


August 9 & 10 Garden Tour
Discover How to Make Your Garden 'Water-Smart'

Attend the Water-Smart Garden Tour on August 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to see winning examples of gardens that use less water than average gardens. Meet other home gardeners and discover new ways to make your own garden "water-smart".

To purchase tickets ($15 in advance, $20 day of) that include addresses and maps for the self-guided tour throughout the Monterey Bay area go to any garden center.

This event is organized by the Monterey Bay Master Gardeners and sponsored by the Santa Cruz and Monterey County Water Awareness Committees. The event helps raise money for school garden
